Self Defense Training for the DisabledSelf defense training, despite popular belief, is not only for the healthy and mobile. In fact, one group of people that self defense training is most crucial for in today's society is the disabled. Although sad, most disabled individuals are more susceptible to attack than a non-disabled person. Perhaps this is because their attackers see them as weaker. But where can a disabled individual seek the proper self defense training? One such place for a disabled person to seek the proper training is the popular firearms training institute Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. Although firearms training is not the only type of training available at Front Sight, the founder Dr. Ignatius Piazza does recommend certain handguns for the disabled. When one individual asked what type of weapon he would suggest, Dr Piazza stated, "A small semi-automatic pistol in 9mm or small .38 special revolver…However any gun is better than no gun at all." However, disabled or not, a person does not have to have a rifle, pistol, or other type of firearm to protect himself. Some people would rather carry another form of weapon, such as a knife. But what about people who wish not to carry a weapon at all? Empty hand defense and edged weapon training is also available at Front Sight. Also, many law enforcement offices offer self defense training to the disabled. Another source of information and training is the world wide web. There are books available as well for those individuals who wish to seek the training and teach themselves. Again, although self defense training has not in the past been as common for the disabled, it is still important for one to be able to protect himself, whether he be on crutches, in a wheel chair, or otherwise disabled.
